Reiki is one of the most revered and gentle forms of energy healing practiced worldwide. Rooted in the sacred Japanese tradition developed by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 20th century, Reiki channels universal life force energy (“Ki” or “Prana”) through the hands to restore emotional harmony and balance the body’s subtle energy fields through holistic personal energy healing sessions.
What is Universal Life Force Energy?
The word Reiki is composed of two Japanese concepts: Rei, which translates to universal spiritual wisdom, and Ki, which signifies the vital life force energy that animates all living beings. In Eastern philosophy and Ayurvedic science, this same life force is known as Prana or Chi.
When our energetic flow becomes stagnant or constricted due to daily stress, emotional suppression, or mental fatigue, we often experience fatigue, anxiety, and a feeling of disconnect. Reiki does not use the practitioner’s personal energy; rather, a trained practitioner acts as an open, grounded conduit through which universal life energy flows directly into areas of subtle disharmony.
The Sacred Attunement Process
Unlike conventional academic learning, the foundation of Reiki practice is transmitted through a sacred energetic initiation known as an attunement (explore our deep dive on what happens during a Reiki attunement). Performed by a certified Reiki Master Teacher, the attunement clears the student’s primary energy meridians, opens the crown and palm chakras, and permanently aligns their energetic frequency to channel Usui healing frequencies.
“Reiki is not merely a healing technique; it is a way of being. When your heart is open and your intent is pure, the universal energy flows effortlessly.” — Healer Hardik

The Five Principles of Reiki (Gokai)
Dr. Mikao Usui taught that physical and energetic harmony begins with daily mental discipline. Every morning and evening, Reiki practitioners contemplate the sacred Gokai (read the complete translation and meditation in our Reiki principles Gokai guide):
- Just for today, I will not be angry.
- Just for today, I will not worry.
- Just for today, I will be grateful.
- Just for today, I will do my work with diligence.
- Just for today, I will be kind to all living beings.
Daily Self-Care Hand Positions
One of the greatest gifts of our comprehensive Usui Reiki Level 1 & 2 Foundation Course is the ability to perform daily self-healing. By resting the palms gently over key energy centers — the eyes, temples, throat, heart, solar plexus, and lower abdomen — for 3 to 5 minutes each, practitioners cultivate grounded awareness, mental calm, and deep restorative stillness.
Distance Healing: Beyond Space and Time
In Reiki Level 2, practitioners are initiated into sacred Reiki symbols and their meanings, including the Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen symbol. This ancient symbol unlocks distance Reiki healing, enabling energy to be projected to loved ones across cities and continents with the same energetic potency as an in-person session.
Whether you seek personal peace, want to heal your family, or aspire to become an accredited spiritual teacher through our Reiki Master Teacher Certification, the journey begins with an open heart and authentic lineage guidance under Healer Hardik.
